DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT

The patient had a chronic history of a venous type of ulcer in the medial aspect of the lower leg. This ulcer had healed with local treatments. At this point in time, the examination of the lower extremities revealed an edematous, erythematous and frail skin. The edema did not have a distribution resembling a chevron. A culture of the skin revealed staphylococcus aureus resistant to penicillin and tetracycline. The clinical diagnosis is lymphangitis.
