This is an actual case admitted to the attending’s service during this month. She had severe biliary pancreatitis and systemic inflammatory response syndrome with more than 10% bands in the peripheral white cell count. Provided she does not have a perforation, a pseudoabscess or other complication, she should be offered biliary surgery after the pancreatitis has abated.
