CHRONICLE - CRÓNICA DEPORTIVA
WINTER
SOFTBALL GOING STRONG AFTER THREE GAMES IN 2008
The MEDICAL CIRCLE HEALTH CLUB WINTER
SOFTBALL league began on January 10 with a demonstration game
between the two teams that signed up for this event: The FINLAYSTS’
LETHAL VECTORS and the KILLER ROOSTERS. The FINLAY MEDICAL SOCIETY,
a nonprofit organization of physicians, students, enthusiasts of
public health, patients, and their friends sponsors the League. It
is under their sponsorship that we publish the scores of the games
and these commentaries at
www.finlay-online.org . This site is for use by the members of
the Society.
In the first game of this WINTER 2008
series, the KILLER ROOSTERS defeated the FINLAYSTS 18 to 10. If we
review the “numeritos” –the scoreboard details – the Killer Roosters
batted for 0.490 and the Finlaysts for 0.470. That was fairly even.
However, the Finlaysts had 8 errors to only 4 in the account of the
Roosters. The excess errors were probably an important factor in the
defeat of the Finlaysts.
In the second game of series, The
FINLAYSTS came back and defeated the KILLER ROOSTERS 19 top 18. This
game again can be analyzed from the statistics provided. The
FINLAYSTS batted for 0.360 and the ROOSTERS for 0.390. However, the
ROOSTERS had 12 errors and the FINLAYSTS only 10. Both teams were
fairly even but it was not the batting but the errors that seemed to
indicate the winner – aside form the runs scored!
The third game was played this last
Saturday on February 2, 2008. The number of runs in this game is
reminiscent of some of the games played in the FALL 2007 when the
numbers of runs made you think of football not softball. In this
game the batting average of the ROOSTERS was 0.530 against the
average of the FINLAYSTS 0.320. The errors also pointed in the
direction of a defeat for the FINLAYSTS. The Finlaysts had in their
column 10 errors to only 4 in that of the ROOSTERS. The runs were an
amazing 30 to 9 victory for the KILLER ROOSTERS.
The attendance this series has been
pretty good but still there are times when a certain team does not
have all its players. IN the last 3 games, the KILLER ROOSTERS have
had only 11 players with 2 or more games played and only 8 with all
three games in their record. In the FINLAYSTS column, 10 players
have played at least 2 games while only 3 players have appeared in
all three games. The league emphasizes that player commitment cannot
be underestimated!
The league is sending out to both teams
their rosters so far with hopes that wach team will mobilize its
resources and perform in the field.
